Seun Kuti ft. Damian Marley – Dey

It’s a big moment for Seun Kuti as continental divides and missed opportunities fall by the wayside in the name of consequential collaboration on his latest listen “Dey.”

The Nigerian singer+songwriter+saxophonist, backed by his famous father Fela’s band Egypt 80, teams up with Jamaica’s famous son Damian Marley for a coming together of sound and spirit as a tireless afrobeat bent intertwines with the rhythmic soul of reggae. That sonorous connection becomes more meaningful when you begin to understand the significance behind the song. Kuti explains:

We are two performers, both from the dynasty of Africa…singing about similar struggles. To have the legacies of these great movements that represent African people is an amazing thing. It shows the similarities between the experiences of Black people all over the world. I think this collaboration is an affirmation of the righteousness of our messages.

Affirmation achieved.
