The year was 1994; I remember it fondly. My entire world was dramatically uprooted when my sisters and I were forced to give up everything we knew as public school kids only to become…private school stooges. There could not have been a more harrowing transition for my overwrought 9 year old self! Ok, I may be overstating just a tad and to be honest if that never happened I wouldn’t have ever got the chance to party in the basement of today’s throwback artiste [more on that in a minute].
Crystal Waters, the early 90’s dance queen, released what would become arguably her crowning achievement. “100% Pure Love,” the chart topping House-infused hit draws you in with the first few heady bars and then you find yourself hooked on the cacophony of ups, downs, and all-arounds. It’s easy to understand how this cut lasted 45 weeks on the Billboard charts; it’s a timeless get-down type of jam no stranger to any party mix worth a damn.
Now about partying in the DMV native’s domicile; if I hadn’t switched schools and made new private school pals I never would have had the chance to befriend the daughter of Ms. Waters in high school. I would never have had the chance to walk the gold record dawned halls of the acclaimed virtuoso. I would never have had the chance to awkwardly mingle with friends and hanger-ons alike after that private school semi-formal.
I mean, I guess it all worked out in the end.
