The year was 1987; a dark time to be honest. In the throes of my “terrible twos” I didn’t believe there was any hope for me. That was until the beacon of light that is INXS‘ “Need You Tonight” righted my ship and guided me safely into my…”even more terrible threes.”
Riding high on the decade’s New Wave trend, the Aussie rock outfit released “Need You Tonight” to rave reviews. That’s to be expected when you engineer an 80’s mainstay. Appropriating a subtle variation of Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” riff, the late Michael Hutchence serenades the listener ever so delicately, almost hypnotically. And once he has you in his grasp the track takes off, highlighted by sleek synths and a slightly funked beat. It’s a shame this was the band’s only chart topper, but it’s undoubtedly stood the test of time.
