Oh God, the embarrassing high school memories I thought I had blocked out are rushing back after all these years.

Brandon Weiss, the producer/DJ/cool guy better known by his stage persona Kasum, has completely restructured 2002’s “Complicated,” Avril Lavigne’s pop-punk monument to teen angst, into a contemporary smash accessible to the overwhelming masses of EDM-heads out there today.

With a little help from Minneapolis’ Megan Hamilton providing lead vocals, the young beatmaker shows off his melodic panache with coy chord progressions, layered bass patterns, and some electric guitar runs reminiscent of that early 2000’s edge to close the cut. Come for the awkward teenage nostalgia, stay for the fresh take on an old favorite.
