I guess I can’t shake that pesky Janet Jackson bug. This is the second post in as many days relating to the infectious talent.
“Love Will Never Do (Without You),” the gigantic early 90’s smash off of Janet’s Rhythm Nation 1814, is the type of bona fide pop hit that transcends both genre and generation. One such illustrative example, two contemporary electronica acts uniting to create a bold interpretation that both stays true to the original and satisfies new audiences.
For their take, Los Angeles beatmaking duo Bee’s Knees and their frequent collabo partners Scavenger Hunt strip the original of its straightforward pop production, instead flipping it into an 80’s inspired synthscape with layers of fluctuating grooves and dreamlike melodies from SH’s Jill Lamoureux. They’ve walked the fine line of reimagining an icon in a wholly unique way and they’ve done so admirably.
