Justin Bieber’s fourth studio album Purpose is still a few days away from release, but you can hear another taste right now. In “Love Yourself,” a stripped down acoustic cut, the young lothario calls out a former flame with the help of co-writer and muse Ed Sheeran. “For all the times that you rain on my parade / And all the clubs you get in using my name / You think you broke my heart, oh girl for goodness sake / You think Iβm crying on my own, well I ainβt” he sings over simple electric guitar riffs.
Sheeran’s indie-woe influences are played up hard throughout actually; if it weren’t for Bieber taking the lead this track would have felt right at home on last year’s X. But it comes as a refreshing break for those looking for something to contrast with Biebs’ electronic fare we’ve been hearing so much of recently. All in all Purpose is shaping up to be one of his better albums and a likely pick for one of 2015’s top sellers.
