So it turns out Ariana Grande is actually a genuinely funny actor. As a thirty-something I was just a tad bit outside Nickelodeon’s target demographic for Victorious so I’ve only had her brief cameo on Fox’s Scream Queens to go off of; not impressed. That all changed after her surprising turn as Saturday Night Live’s latest host and musical guest. From the opening monologue to the night’s last sketch, the 22 year old delivered the comedy goods and then some.
But Grande is still a singer first and that was as apparent as ever as she performed two tracks off Dangerous Woman, her upcoming third studio album. After wowing the studio audience with the title track she took to the stage for her second act “Be Alright,” a funky pop number with a bouncy bassline only equaled by her undeniable pipes.
Light and catchy as hell, this has Top 40 chart-topper written all over it. Look for the studio version available this Friday March 18 and don’t forget Dangerous Woman is set for release May 20th via Republic Records.
UPDATE: The live performance has been taken down from YouTube, but hey the album version is out now so…
