For their first taste of new material since last year’s I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it, The 1975 have released a daring cover of the legendary Sade’s ballad “By Your Side.”

Premiered on BBC’s Radio 1 as MistaJam’s [filling in for Annie Mac] ‘Hottest record in the world’ today, the cut echoes their new wave synth sound of late while stepping it up a notch by introducing vocal modulations familiar to the original. It’s an interesting take, one longtime listeners might need a little time adjusting to, but on the whole it fits with their ever evolving style.

And as part of this year’s BRIT Awards’ celebrations, the band will play the song live for the first time at London’s Dome tomorrow night in support of the War Child NGO.
