Dua Lipa’s current smash “New Rules” is a cautionary lesson for this generation’s boy-crazy youth as well as one heck of a bop to boot. So it’s no surprise to see Clean Bandit take the tune on when they stopped by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge earlier this week.
Like any cover worth remembering, this take transforms the original into something uniquely fresh thanks to a late 90’s twist. Incorporating the signature strings of SisQo’s ultimate booty anthem “Thong Song,” the violin-wielding ensemble manage to create not only a memorable compliment but a standalone mashup all its own. No easy feat when considering the contrast in sources.
