Taylor Swift – September (Earth, Wind & Fire Cover)

Taylor Swift’s beef with music streaming services, namely Spotify, was both extensive and well documented. But those tensions began to ease last year and today it seems like a full on embrace.

That’s after the contemporary icon shared two new takes for the leading streamer’s Spotify Singles series, an acoustic versioning of her current Reputation chart-topper “Delicate” and a country-colored cover of the Earth, Wind & Fire classic “September.”

The latter, recorded at Nashville’s famed studio The Tracking Room, is a muted take on the wedding reception mainstay with its simple string arrangement and restrained vocal accents. But what the new spin lacks in excitement, it more than makes up for in emotion. There’s a sense of deeper heart, reminiscent of Fearless era Swift, behind each verse that transforms the decades old party starter into a more tender ballad today.
