Charli XCX ft. Troye Sivan – 1999

The year was 1999. Millionaire game shows were in, slimeball politicians were out. It was a simpler time. To commemorate this age of innocence, Charli XCX and Troye Sivan come together for a sonic celebration on the aptly titled “1999.”

A callback to the dance-pop foundations that epitomized the sound of the time, the new cut is a whirlwind of bouncy synths and timely lyrical references I’m not quite sure their younger selves would have actually picked up on. Charli, seven at the time, namedrops Nickelodeon’s teen sketch-comedy show All That while Sivan, who was all of four mind you, reminisces about Jonathan Taylor Thomas fantasies.
