Not every new 1975 tune is going to deserve a write up here, but until that implausible moment presents itself you’re stuck with ’em.
The lads latest is a departure from Notes On A Conditional Form’s preceding offering, the delightfully noisy “People,” in sound and substance alike. Awash in digital syncopation, “Frail State Of Mind” is a modern opine on the ceaseless nature of anxiety.
Synths, strings, and a busy piano meld into the background to let frontman Matty Healy’s verses on depression and its manifestations take hold and resonate. Saying what needs to be said, this is the band for the moment.
