It’s been years nearly a decade since Karen Harding first shared her MNEK produced “Say Something” into the musical zeitgeist. Since that magical introduction nine years ago she’s released a series of dance-pop cuts that shine in the same vein, garnering a swell of support for a full-length project with each delicious drop.
But that wait is fortunately over as the UK soloist unveils her debut LP Take Me Somewhere; the phrase “highly anticipated” is a gross understatement. It’s a thirteen track testament to house and all the bounce it brings.
Digital High, being the dutiful discographer, has already covered many of the previous successes on these pages but revisiting hits like the criminally underrated “Other Side of Love” and the Digital Farm Animals’ collaboration “Undo My Heart” rekindles the original passion for the creative’s musicmaking process and serves as another sign of successful longevity. But hearing the fresh tracks for the first time takes you right back to her early era while still maintaining a contemporary bent.
Tracks like “For Your Love” and the titular “Take Me Somewhere” engage with their focus on accessible rhythm and lyric, but it’s the album’s final act that grooves and moves listeners (well at least one). The pure emotion poured into the melody is ever evident, not only making for a clear favorite but for a sonic statement as well.
Karen Harding’s moment has finally arrived.
