Upbeat and festive and mature
That’s the terse description of Sabrina Carpenter’s new Christmas-minded EP fruitcake given by DH via text upon an initial listen. While apt, I’d like to expound on my thoughts in this space today.
Yes it’s all of the above, but it’s so much more. It’s a Merry-making moment. The revelry kicks off with a topical update to the solo star’s breakthrough smash “Nonsense,” spinning the lyrics to match the theme. And yes the outros are just as naughty as the original’s.
“santa doesn’t know you like i do” and “is it new years yet?” offer more of that celebratory nature, while “cindy lou who,” beautifully penned, switches up the vibe for the project’s only ballad. And for the traditionalists, there’s a beautiful cover of the classic “White Christmas.”
But the standout has to be “buy me presents” and its absolutely fun and flirty approach to the holidays. It’s the cherry on top if you will.
