Justin Timberlake, elder statesman of Pop at age 42 now, is readying his sixth studio album Everything I Thought It Was [and first in five years] with the release of lead single “Selfish.”
He’s marking his return with a midtempo ballad, the singer’s signature style, complete with R&B-toned grooves and a falsetto-rich resonance in the verses and hook. It’s a solid listen, but DH is hoping for a little more merrymaking in the rest of the album rollout.
And according to JT’s longtime producer+friend Timbaland, it sounds like that’s where its headed:
It’s fun Justin. It’s like ‘FutureSex /LoveSounds,’ but nothing too heavy, just giving you what you’d expect from us…
