Liverpool’s Liam Brown aka two blinks, i love you leaves his bedroom studio behind and takes in all The City That Never Sleeps has to offer, if only for a moment, on his aesthetic ode to NYC “my girl.”
Penned after a pilgrimage to New York City late last year, this 2000s-esque alt-rock’r (with flashes of folk flair) explores themes of complicated companionship through the lens of aimless wayfare. Speaking on its composition, the singer+songwriter shares:
It feels lyrically about leaning on someone you love, in good and bad ways. A love between two people that can be so far from each other in style, and this causing a fundamental rift. I think those feelings can ultimately make two people feel lonelier…Iβve always attached a lot of emotional weight to exploring ideas of feeling small and alone in a big city where there is so much energy and life.
Couple that earnest sentiment with an almost beguiling melody and you’re left with this lasting listen.
