Skunk Anansie – “An Artist Is An Artist”

Checking back in after nearly a three year pause, British rock darlings Skunk Anansie are reminding listeners why their brand of social commentary is so important on “An Artist Is An Artist.”

Tackling issues like ageism, approval, and apathy, the four-piece’s raucous, new-wave mix makes brilliant use of riff and roar to sell their treatise. That’s in large part thanks to the team-up with producer David Sitek of TV On The Radio fame.

His name seemed to be on a lot of records that we liked. But none of the records sounded the same…He basically reminded us that the process of making music didn’t need to be that complicated…he got us to strip things right down.

That guidance, paired with the band’s knack for resonant music-making, is what makes this listen so special.
