It really rankles me when I get turned on to a dope song months after its initial impact so work with me as I process my ire as I unpack “Shades” from Snakehips & Absolutely today.

This d’n’b collaboration thrills from the jump as the latter’s warming vocals nestle nicely over a subdued outset only to usher in a virile explsoion of heightened percussion as the chorus gives way to its first verse. The rest is an engaging and engrossing mix of beat and vocality that not only reverberates after a first listen but on each and every one that follows.

Almost cathartic in a way.
