MARKETPLACE, a Hartlepool five-set, are quickly becoming one of the UK’s rousing risers. That’s due in large part to work like their latest “Ode to Monty.”

A tweak on the tried and true ballad format, this alt-indie escape is parts playful and parts tongue-in-cheek but wholly heartfelt. The band leans into their live sound, showcasing much of the infectious and energetic mood-crafting they develop, as jangle’d riffs and driving percussion steer this groove along. But it’s the lively and lighthearted verse+hook telling the story here.
