Brock Geiger has spent most of his career contributing to other creators’ craft, but that changes as the longtime songwriter+producer steps out on his own for the first time and releases his debut album shepherded by its sleazy, groove-centric title track.
“Some Nights” hypnotizes from the onset as bits of alt-pop panache and art-rock rizz enchant eager ears. Then the Canadian creative’s vocal quirks take hold to tell the story of relationship turbulence, all the while a club-queue’d cadence builds to a climax ready to fill the dance floor.
It’s that heightened juxtaposition that’s working so well here and a grand harbinger of the craftsmanship you can expect from the rest of the full-length record.
