Up-and-coming alt-pop’r MARIS is taking us to church, in a sense, as she releases a candid introspection on her personal holy trinity: weed, sex, and faith.
“Mary + I,” buoyed by slick synths and driving percussive bits, is a sonic sojourn through the complexities of anxiety and the methods we choose to cope with. But I’ll let the singer+songwriter explain herself:
[The song] started as an homage to weed and celibacy…But then I started to get really into yoga and meditation, and doing those things on a gummy changed my life…During all of this spiritual exploration, I became familiar with Mary Magdalene, and started to study her gospel from a book my friend Izzy gave to me. I learned about the god within myself, and within every atom on earth, and Iβll never forget the celibacy and cannabis filled liberation of that stoner summer
For anyone that currently enjoys their THC time or anyone that’s looking to try, this little ditty is a true testament to the therapeutic properties of the chemical compound. And it’s also just a fun listen too.
