In Her Own Words – “Sugarcoat”

If you’re like the over-anxious Digital High your brain finds itself spiraling out over a new obsession on the regular, rather annoyingly so. Lucky for the afflicted like us, Los Angeles duo In Her Own Words are setting the scenario to sound on their latest listen “Sugarcoat.”

The object of preoccupation in this case is a new partner, the kind that wholly consumes, so this pop-punk proclamation is almost universally relatable. Effervescent riffs and an urgent percussive bent build the blueprint, but the undercurrent of infatuation tells the story. The two put it, in their own words, like this:

This song captures the rush of intense attraction, comparing it to the sweetness and addictive nature of a drug…The emotions are raw, impulsive, and hard to control, like a high that keeps calling back.

Intense, engaging, and almost medicinal; let this sonic catharsis be your guide.
