SoCal scenesters Super Sometimes (fka New Aesthetic) have stirred an outsized interest in their new tune “Say Something Now” from DH thanks to a throwback sound and an elder-millennial moment of nostalgia found in the silly little visuals.
I’ll be honest. The way to to Digital High’s heart is through comical references to the greatest cinematic achievement of the
21st century…2001’s Wet Hot American Summer. So to see the four twenty-somethings pay homage to the absurdity of the film all these years later, even briefly, is a brilliant flash of dumb fun.
But the best part of the whole endeavor is that the song itself is so dope too. A contemporary, pop-punk approach that leans into its early 2000’s heyday serves as the guiding cadence while bits of emo and skate-punk sprinkle in for a well-rounded flourish. All in all, this sensory adventure is one to watch.
