Toronto soloist Sylo, having last impressed with October’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert, returns to the sonic scene with reckless abandon on new groove “Carve Me Out.”
Flirting with an edgier, more electronic-leaning approach that marks the end of his sensitive era, this new direction trends towards an upbeat, caustic sound. Electro-pop particulars, synthesized through an alt-R&B sphere, dance around the newly-exxed’s new found freedom, but it’s his silky smooth vocal specialty stayed true that seals this listen complete. He shares:
I spent the last four years with this person in the same city I was born in. I knew that for there to be real change in my life, I had to literally move to another country not just for her, but to move on from the old patterns, habits and behaviors that dictated so much of who I was.
