Rising L.A. creatives Evening Elephants just may be responsible for your next favorite listen as they’ve released a deserving candidate with “Sugar Coated Envy (Home).”
Taken from the newly pressed short-player Carefree, very, the upbeat, alternative cut comes across as fun folly at first but there’s a more melancholic inflection at play here. The fellas are leaning into a 90’s throwback treatment when sad songs sounded so sanguine. Producer-half Brandon βBβ Leslie shares:
The track is sad boy aesthetic, we take happy chords and we make them sad…[The 90s] was happy, sad music, so I love doing that style. And Sam always throws puns, mythology and weird, funny flips on its head. It’s quirky and I love that kind of vibe.
