For their final preview of upcoming long-player Humdrum [out Oct. 24], UK six-set Home Counties release the playful new record “Roundabout.”
The dreaded small-talk-spiral is put on blast as clipped strums, elastic basslines, and a nervy sense of momentum come to characterize this airy, alt-indie opine on social fatigue. But the cheekiness shines brightest in the lyrical denunciation. Vocalist Will Harrison puts it:
This song is about desperately trying to escape a conversation with someone at a party who won’t stop talking about themselves. [It] is definitely one of the most light-hearted moments of the new album.
It’s also just a fun little ditty to bop to.
