Having wowed with an extensive run of short-players to this point, Boston retro-soundsters Couch have quickly become one of Digital High’s favorite new finds. So it’s a pleasure to highlight their full-length, debut album Big Talk and its fantastic focus track “Middle Man.”
The new LP is brimming with soulful pop opines on embracing love in its many forms, but its the queer anthem celebrating complexities that’s stolen the spotlight on this endeavor. Femininity and radical love serve as the thematic foundation for this quick-paced groove, empowering an approach rooted in sincere sentiment. But it’s the fevered black-and-whites alongside a galvanizing percussive bent, almost working overtime, that elevate this cut to favored status.
You really can’t go wrong with any track on this record, a true testament to the band’s brand of merry music-making. And hopefully an introduction to someone else’s new favorite listen.
