Cincy creatives The Afghan Whigs, taking on tunes not their own, are paying homage to the UK’s own Still Corners with their full-bodied versioning of the 2016 single “Downtown.”
Right from the start this anthemic-minded cover flips the accustomed approach as delicate piano play replaces the synth stylings of the original only to build into this crush of organic sound; galvanizing riffs play off intensifying percussive runs and create a soundscape rich in movement and meaning.
Not only is their rendition a worthy compliment, but DH dare says it’s…better.
