For anyone that has grown up alongside female siblings you know that they are at times the most bothersome entities on the planet, but for better or worse they’re like built-in best friends that understand and care for you in ways someone outside that familial bond could never understand. Tom Misch, stirred by the same circumstance, pens a most poignant ode to his own kin and the larger assemblage altogether on “Sisters With Me.”
Released alongside the announcement of his sophomore studio effort Full Circle, the minimalist cut is carried by a probing riff run that renders this listen subtle and sweet with an undercurrent of sophisticated sincerity. And that genuineness is only matched by the accompanying visuals. Through short vignettes of raw and unfiltered emotion, director Juliet Klottrup provides an intimate glimpse into the stories and connections within families.
And if you’ll allow me to interject my own feelings on the matter, I can’t concur more. I was blessed to grow up with two younger sisters and despite the performative disdain that shaped our youth we’re a close and cohesive unit as adults. They’re my compassionate support group and most trusted confidantes and I couldn’t be more happy to say that.
This one goes out to them and all the sisters making life that much better for their brothers.
