Multi-platinum performer Noah Kahan has not-so-quietly positioned himself as one of this era’s most accomplished and authentic voices. With three albums under his belt, including the global smash Stick Season, a fourth [out Apr. 24] is almost certainly assured the same result if its title & lead track is any indicator.
“The Great Divide” is an ambitious alt-indie cut centered around themes of self-reflection, separation, and shame as the soloist’s lyrical prowess shines bright over galvanizing riff runs and a pronounced percussive bent. Lines like You know I think about you all the time | And my deep misunderstanding of your lifeβ¦ litter the track with earnest introspection and hit home the idea of confronting the hard truths of your past.
Speaking to the larger project itself, he shares:
The last five years have been the single most challenging, complicatedly beautiful, and life-altering of my career. I was somewhere I understood, and suddenly I was somewhere completely foreign…Writing for this album was a balancing act of trying to go back in time and move forward in the same moment.
I think it’s safe to say he and we are in for another smashing success.
