OutKast – Rosa Parks [Throwback]

On Wednesdays we wear pink. On Thursdays we post “throwbacks” for no discernible reason other than to take advantage of that sweet alliteration.

The year was 1998. I was a 14 year old Freshman in our nation’s capital. Life was…interesting. Then I heard “Rosa Parks” off of Outkast’s breakthrough album Aquemini. It was one of my early introductions to Hip-Hop, a genre I could relate to growing up on the porcelain white streets of suburban Maryland.

‘Game changer’ gets thrown around too often but let’s be honest, that’s what this was. If a ton of upper middle class Caucasian kids are spending their parent’s hard earned money on your music you know you’ve made it.
