Keith Sweat – Twisted

The year was 1996, arguably the most impressive 365 day span American music will ever see. I mean just look at some of Billboard’s Hot 100 that year. You’ve got the One Hit Wonder to rule all One Hit Wonders with Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” topping the list; the mammoth Mariah Carey / Boyz II Men duet “One Sweet Day” at No. 2; folk legend Tracy Chapman checking in with “Give Me One Reason”; Bone Thugs-n-Harmony breaking through with “Tha Crossroads”; and rounding out the top 10 is none other than Keith Sweat’s masterpiece “Twisted.”

The baritone’s biggest hit was one of my first forays into the R&B genre. Featuring the Kut Klose trio, the track weaves a tale of intense infatuation over a lover who doesn’t necessarily reciprocate the same feelings; so basically every “relationship” I’ve ever had. Hooked after the first listen I quickly gunned for the faux-title of BMG Music Club’s “Most Loyal Sixth Grade Member.” Relive the mid-90’s glory here:
