The year was 1993. Alt-rock was king; R&B was queen. I was mastering reading comprehension. It was a big year all around.
Making a name for themselves in a crowded rhythm and blues market, Jade struck Billboard gold with “Don’t Walk Away,” the Chicago trio’s crown jewel. Reaching #2 on the Hot 100, this thumping bass driven jam was a guaranteed party starter. With the uptempo production and melodic choruses it’s obvious why it was so successful. Full disclosure though, I didn’t actually start blasting this until after graduating High School. So many years wasted in retrospect.
Fun fact: Tonya and Jo of the original three reunited this year adding Myracle Holloway to release “Baby Luv” on Valentines Day. Anyway, relive the early 90’s below:
