The year was 1982. The United States and the Soviet Union were in the throes of a long arduous Cold War. Unabomber Ted Kaczynski was carrying out malicious attacks undetected. We lost film icons Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly, but not all was so bleak. Family friendly classic, E.T., the Extra Terrestrial was raking in heaps of cash at the box office. We were graced with the birth of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. And Toto would craft the only ode to an Arquette the world would ever need.
Ok so “Rosanna,” the gold-certified hit single off of the bluesy rock band’s fourth studio album, may not literally be about Rosanna Arquette but she was dating the keyboard player Steve Porcaro at the time and he just so happened to be living with the writer of the song, frontman David Paich. Good enough for me!
All in all it’s archetypal 80’s; over the top pop production, futuristic synth stylings, with a memorable guitar solo to round it out. And gigantic curly ‘fros. Relive below:
