The wait is finally over; Nicki Minaj’s third studio album The Pinkprint has leaked. And while some are keyed up that this is her most personal work yet, it’s the return to her hip-hop roots that’s piqued my interest. Case in point: “Truffle Butter.”
The iTunes exclusive finds the brazen MC uniting with frequent collaborators Drake and Lil Wayne for an uptempo heater about rap’s bread and butter…having a ton of money. While they’re not breaking any new ground here lyrically, it’s the infectious beat that caught my ear. Sampling Brit beatmaker Maya Jane Coles’ “What They Say” the three come something potent, each dropping effectively swift verses, even if it is the same tried and true formula. I can’t knock the heavyweight flows here.
