7. “My Friend Has A Swimming Pool” – MAUSI
6. “Say Something” – Karen Harding
5. “Rude (Zedd Remix)” – Magic!
I said this back in August and it still rings true today; Zedd is a “drop
everything you’re doing and listen” type artist. It’s no wonder this marks his
second appearance on the list. And the hordes of festival goers this summer
know what I’m getting at too, as they were fortunate enough to hear the 25
year old’s revamp of Canadian sensation Magic!’s “Rude” in all its anthemic glory. So please treat your ears one more time:
4.“Stay In Love” – Plastic Plates ft. Sam Sparro
Released way back in February, “Stay In Love” by Felix Bloxsom aka Plastic
Plates is a chilled viber featuring a relaxed groove and the dulcet tones
of childhood friend Sam Sparro.
3. “Fancy” – Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX
Recent controversy aside, Iggy Azalea had a helluva year. Her debut album
The New Classic topped charts internationally and she’s been
heralded as many’s next hip-hop gamechanger. And with the release of
“Fancy,” any debate was short-lived. Featuring Charli XCX on the catchy
as fuuuuck hook, the Australian MC drops an audacious flow reminding
us all why she’s the next great musical act.
2. “Changing Me” – Bobby Green ft. Sean Michael Murray
I went back and forth with this electro-gem. It definitely has all
the makings for my top choice, an uptempo, party starting beat and
silky smooth vocals, but it lacks that je nais sais quoi or “Jenna
said what?” for the Sonic heads out there.
Still, this would be my number 1 any other year if it weren’t for…
1. “Fiona Coyne” – SAINT PEPSI
My unofficial “Song of the Summer” and now my “Song of the Year,”
SAINT PEPSI’s “Fiona Coyne” grabbed hold of me on first listen and
never let go. Named after Degrassi’s favorite lesbian, this bubbly
pop dazzler is the perfect combination of top notch digital production
and sheer fun. If this didn’t put a little pep in your getdown
or bring a smile to your face I don’t know if I want you reading this
blog anymore! Just kidding, I need the hits. As a bonus, check out his
own rework of Magic!’s “Rude,” released justlast night.
