The year was 1944. A little flick by the name of Meet Me In St. Louis was drumming up critical and commercial success nationwide. The story centers around the Smiths, a well-to-do family who have to uproot their comfortable lifestyle abruptly when the patriarch is forced to relocate to New York City for work. It’s a rather quaint family musical, but it did introduce the world to a holiday classic and my personal favorite Christmas song of all time.
“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” first sung by the timeless Judy Garland for the film, is a touching serenade stirring hope for a brighter tomorrow. It’s also one of the more time-honored Christmastime standards, receiving the cover treatment from stars of yore and contemporary artists alike.
And while I may be stuck here in the cube farm I hope everyone else is enjoying the day with family and friends.
