Years & Years are quickly becoming my new favorite act. Be it with their unique and always popping retro-sounds or through the undeniable vocals of lead singer Olly Alexander [see “Desire”], the electronica-trio out of London are constantly dazzling my uncultivated sensibilities. Their latest is no exception.
Almost as a precursor to being crowned BBC’s Top Sound of 2015 the three friends released “King,” another showstopping cut fit for their engrossing brand. Plenty prudent, this straight up dance track packs full the three and a half minutes with neat tone builds and synths for days. And that voice…I think I’d be perfectly content listening to Olly recite the history of whales and whaling as found in Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. In one sitting too.
