The year was 1995; a time when you could call electronic dance music by the all inclusive moniker ‘techno’ and be done with it. For today’s throwback purposes though, I’ll narrow my scope and applaud house classic “The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)” from DJ/producer Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez working under alias The Bucketheads.
‘Bomb,’ having lifted it’s main groove and hook from the Chicago hit “Street Player,” was a commercial success in the UK, but gained notoriety here in the States after being included on Volume 2 of the pinnacle club mix of the 90’s…ESPN culled Jock Jams. You’ll remember these cheesy dance compilations as a mixture of embarrassing self promotion and cheap thrills, but they did provide for hours of mindless entertainment in many a childhood basement.
