Stacie Orrico – (There’s Gotta Be) More To Life [Throwback]

The year was 2003; three years before the founding of time-wasting behemoth BuzzFeed and a decade before their inane listicles would overwhelm your Facebook feeds. Though I’ll give credit where credit is due, Do You Remember These Obscure 00’s Pop Stars? 100% inspired today’s throwback.

Atop that esteemed tabulation is Stacie Orrico, the Seattle songstress who blessed us with her spiritual-lite existence questioner “(There’s Gotta Be) More To Life.” Trading on her Christian pop roots, the then 17 year old provided an earnest alternative to the sexed up spectacle dominating the popular music scene of the time. Over an edgy, rhythmic groove from producers The Underdogs, Stacie challenges the listener with the lyrics ‘There’s gotta be more to life / than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me’ and ‘Well it’s life, but I’m sure / there’s gotta be more / than wanting more.’

Preach!

So often we lose sight of what’s actually important in life as we get caught up in cheap thrills and fleeting fads. There really is much more to life if you just take the damn time to embrace the wonder that is living.

And Orrico is still dishing out her soulful life lessons, releasing a slew of cuts to her SoundCloud page over the past year. For now though, enjoy this heedful throwback:
