Pat Lok, the Vancouver virtuoso versed in all things contemporary cool, has done it again with an inspired take on fellow Canuck Justin Bieber’s latest “Love Yourself.”
Released yesterday to coincide with the Biebs’ birthday, the accomplished beatflipper completely reimagines the acoustic chart-topper as a straight up R&B / House monster, complete with ridiculously smooth grooves and bounce-heavy percussive layers. I think there’s even a hint of New jack swing thrown in for good measure too.
And on vocal duty? Lok enlists aural-genic foursome After Romeo, a modern day callback to the late 90’s wave of bubblegum pop, pitching in with some swirling harmonies and overall Bieber-esque appeal.
