The year was 1998. Big beat was hitting its stride across the Atlantic, so like anything made popular in Britain we Americans just had to be a part of it. Thus began the international rise of Fatboy Slim.
Of course the prolific beat-crafter is widely known for his breakout hits “The Rockafeller Skank” and “Praise You,” but I’ll always remember him as the dude that composed the theme to my freshmen year summer; a pumped up electronic spin on the Beastie Boy’s alt-hip hop cut “Body Movin’.”
Heavy breakbeats and distorted synths set the tone before the unconventional percussion kicks the original into overdrive. What you’re left with is a literal body movin’ composition that both outpaces and outshines its prototype.
