Ansel Elgort may be the closest thing to a modern day renaissance man there is. Not only is he a celebrated actor, he’s also a successful DJ, singer, and respected driver of babies. Then there’s his side project as a rapper.
Take his new single “Supernova” for instance. Lead from his upcoming EP of the same name, the cut oozes an intoxicating mix of brooding sensuality and smooth candor as the rhyme-spitter bears his soul over a love interest who doesn’t share the same affections. That lamenting tone is then matched by Scott Storch and Angel Lopez’ introspective bass and restless synth work.
But the new mix’s strength isn’t quite realized until you factor in the Chris Tilley directed visuals. The single take finds Elgort ruminating feverishly through darkened streets, quite literally drenched in sweat, before bursting out of his haze into the daylight of a new indeoendence.
