There’s only one simple standard that governs this Digital High space, a cut has to move me emotionally or physically to receive any sort of recognition on these pages. Archie Faulks has gone the route of the former on his debut single “It Rains.”
Initially rising to recognition under the moniker Tenterhook in 2014, the London singer-songwriter has shed the stage name and shared a hauntingly beautiful ballad. Alt-folk at its core, the cut relies primarily on a somber, string-led melody but it’s the soloist’s reflective vocal take that truly looms large. He says of the track:
I wrote ‘It Rains’ about a dying but once great relationship. All we do now is fight and get back together again; with the memories of the glory days being the only thing bringing us back to each other…It’s a love for things we did together and the feeling we gave each other, but not for the other person themselves.
