Nick van Hofwegen is Young & Sick and Young & Sick is one of the more intriguing acts charging towards the mainstream at the moment. He has wowed with previous electroni-pop prowess, now capitalizing on that ascendancy with his new EP No Static. Released earlier this week through B3SCI Records, the four track short player is puffed up by the aforementioned, but it’s a clever cover that’s caught DH’s attention.
“Up Down (Do This All Day),” a modest success for T-Pain & B.o.B in 2013, is the standard party-starting fare you’d expect from hip-hop’s scene of five years ago. The flip on the other hand adds layers of finesse through its play up of blended synths and electrifying bounce. But that would all be for naught if it weren’t for the sincere vocal interpretation shifting this from a boilerplate cover to true re-imagining.
