The 101 are an indie-pop outfit from Scotland and your new favorite act.
With a knack for endearing melodies and sage lyricism, the Scottish six-piece will win you over with “Statues.” Spotlighting the struggles of overcoming adolescent stresses, the surprisingly upbeat song charms with lively riffs, accelerated percussive layers, and a captivating vocal take from lead singer Dexter Fawcett. Speaking candidly, he says:
I think all it also touches upon self-validation, striving for that sense of achievement and subsequent anxiety about not reaching this status in your life where you feel you’re an “achiever”. When you’re 16 naturally you believe everything matters so much and every decision is either catastrophic or monumental, and that’s what this song tries to convey.
This guy gets it.
