Mental health consciousness gets its due on HAIM’s latest, “Now I’m In It.”
Set to a subtle synthscape peppered with percussive jolts, the sonorous sisters take on depression with Danielle opening up about the cyclical nature of the struggle with one’s self. Lines like ‘This time I said I would do this right / Said I would never break this promise’ and ‘Can’t get a read on myself / Gotta change this situation’ capture the conflict so absolutely. And when paired with a sympathetic back-beat the end result is a cathartic sound session.
