On this Juneteenth let’s take a minute, well several minutes, to reflect on our roles in the world and the parts we play in making it a more just society. Too often most of us have sat idly by while injust actions are perpetrated against our fellow minority citizens, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We are in the middle of a global movement, demanding change and urging us toward that goal of equal justice, so what better way than to express that imperativeness than through song.
Chy Reco, Ramond, A Meazy, and Wil Guice have come together for the powerful collaboration “I Can’t Breathe (Again),” a passionate screed on the anger and frustration black Americans have endured over the last 400-some years. We are at a tipping point here in the States and that sense of urgency is captured so strongly by these four. This is their [and our] anthem.
So let’s do more than appreciate the message for 4:58. Let’s take action as well.
Start having the awkward conversations with your conservative family and friends.
Start having the more meaningful conversations with your like-minded family and friends.
Start donating to any number of memorial funds and activist initiatives.
Start making yourself heard by your local representatives, demanding accountability.
Start participating in your local community’s dialogue, joining protests or showing up to your town hall meetings.
