If you’re in the mood for an entirely fresh sound might DH suggest Banji’s glitchy, alt-pop debut as an idea?
The Netherlands-based four-piece’s “Listen” combines indie-retro influences and modernized flash for a listen that embodies contemporary cool. Riffs comfortable in a mid-90s backdrop play off 8-bit interjections all while an acerbic lyrical bent brings the tune current. Speaking on the track, the band has this to say:
There are a lot of little elements hidden in the music, almost as if they’re constantly trying to talk through each other. I took that concept and pictured a couple sitting at a dinner table. [The song] ended up being a song about favouring child-like stubbornness over maturity. The inability to filter thoughts, and instead, trying to talk your way out.
Just listen.
