Brighton-based mood-makers congratulations are cooking something special as they announce their debut album Join Hands [out Feb. 23] and drop the lead single “This Life.”
A tongue-in-cheek nod to first world problems, this art-pop spectacle excites from the jump as fuzz’d licks, electro-clash synths, and just the right amount of cowbell coalesce around a listless lyrical bent to achieve a state of bombastic appeal. I’ll let vocalist Leah Stanhope explain:
[The song] is an ode to being delusional—you know, people who moan about having the worst time but like in reality like they’ve got a roof over their heads and food to eat, and ultimately, it’s not that deep.
Unseriousness at its very best!
